Not actually a PSE tip, but it's so handy when I'm searching for a psd file - ______________________________________________________
Note - I do not know if this works similarly on a Windows computer
Using a Mac with 11.6 Big Sur ______________________________________________________
had a duh moment...
I know, I know - you guys probably always knew this...

EDIT: MICHEAL SAYS THIS IS CALLED QUICK LOOK
__________________________________________________ After 8 years of using a Mac (two different ones) - I discovered something the other day (at first, I thought it was a PSE function, but it works with all file formats - whether PSE is open or not) After you select a file - hit the spacebar - a large preview of the file appears Simple as that - it works with Pages (word processing) files - jpg's, psd's, etc. One step - no longer do you have to right click and hit 'open with preview' Hit spacebar again, and the preview closes It even works if you have a psd icon instead of a preview On another note: BTW - does anyone know why, in some instances, when I saved a psd file, I ended up with an icon instead of a small photo?? Re-saving doesn't solve the issue now, though, hitting the space bar at least allows me to see the file without opening in PSE -- not sure the icon-y thing has happened recently, but not being able to make it go away by re-saving is strange

Re-saving doesn't solve the issue Janice, I'm not a Mac user and I may be on the wrong track here. Mac users will be better qualified to help you. A similar issue was reported on the MacRumors forum; a solution was provided in post #6. See if it will work for you. Thumbnails not showing on Mac (Preview)

Hi Janice, Interesting, Windows users like me often wonder what are those Mac functions like Preview.
No real equivalent in Windows. Of course, when you are browsing a folder in the organizer you are limited to supported file formats (for instance no pure Illustrator/Acrobat pdfs) AND only the files already in the catalog. - so, you can right click on the folder in the left folder panel in tree mode and choose: 'Reveal in explorer'. There you can display the files not yet in the catalog. But no psd, no pdfs... only generic icons.
- I recommend using the free Faststone Image Viewer as your secondary editor. it opens very fast, displays psd with a nice fimstrip. Can be used in a preliminary culling stage. Generally better than the slow to open integrated 'Full view - F11' Organizer view mode. In the organizer just click on the icon on the right of the 'Editor' icon in the bottom bar, and choose 'external editor'.

Some great tips here. Thanks for starting this thread, Janice. And as a Mac user I appreciate the follow-ups Sepiana and stinson.

Thanks for that info Michael Sepiana - thanks for that link - I think it cleared up on it's own since I don't believe I have that problem anymore, but I'm glad to have a solution on hand in case it reoccurs.
