I now have my Nikkor Z 100-400 lens that has a foot (with QD connection) on it for tripods. I have used the QD system on the camera body (Z6-II and L-Bracket). Should I continue to use the L-Bracket connection or do I use the lens foot connection?

I do not know that lens specifically. But I'd highly recommend using the foot on the lens. It is there to improve balance and to reduce stress on the mount because there is no weight-forward torque on the camera mount. Using the foot will make the lens/camera better balanced on the monopod or tripod. In addition, by using the foot you can quickly rotate the camera to vertical (portrait) position assuming the foot is on a rotating collar. Enjoy your new lens. Clive

Thanks Clive for the info. It is sort of what I thought I should do but thought getting some other insights would take care of some anxieties. It is a highly sought after and hard to find Z lens and very expensive. I was on a backordered list for 6 months thru B&H but got lucky and found one at an authorized US dealer. Attached is the 1st photo using the lens. Minimal Raw development but resized thru Elements for web.

Attached is the 1st photo using the lens. Ow, sweet. Nice oriole. Good glass gets expensive .. you will love it. The Sony 100-400 GM is the same price: however, I opted for the 200-600-mm and most pleased with it.

That photo has already convinced me that you made a wise purchase.
Your title did sort of throw me; "Strap with QD Connection"
Yes, definitely use the lens foot for both attaching to a tripod AND carrying via a strap.
More recent lens foots are pre-machined to fit Arca-Swiss clamps with no further attachment necessary. The foot on my 50-500mm Sigma is a bit too wide and I believe it is machined to fit the wider Manfrotto clamps. I intend to remedy that with a dove-tail bit on the router table. As it is, I had to install a long Arca-Swiss plate.
I drilled through my lens foot and added a stainless bolt that I clip to my shoulder strap using a trigger snap --- the exact same snap that I have on all my bridle reins; I figure if Ol' Henry can't break it, it ain't gonna break carrying a camera.
I will have to look; I thought I had posted photos of my lens foot/stainless bolt modification.

Sorry about the confusion on the title. The nikkor foot isn’t Arca and it was easy to replace with a Leophoto foot that had the QD connection. I’ll never go back to the screw-on attachment. Just like I won’t go back to screw on filters.
