Scrapping goes back a LOT of years and people used to gather bits and pieces of their everyday family lives together in a book or album to record them for future generations.
With the advent of digital cameras allied with computers and digital image editing software the hobby of scrapbooking became much easier and less messy. No need to clear up glitter, glue or bits of paper now at the end of a scrapping session.
Digital Scrapbooking I would suggest tends to fall into two different categories.
The Personal Layout and the Artistic Layout.
The Personal Layout - These are scrapbook pages that record a memory or memories of someone’s family and life.
If the photo/s don’t tell the complete story, journaling is essential to fill in the story.
A layout can be a simple collage of photos with the needed data added or it can be very dressed up. Your approach is unimportant as long as it tells the story.
There’s no right or wrong way to tell your story...the important part is getting the story told.
The problem in defining digital scrapbooking lies in the fact that there is no firm dividing line between the two approaches Personal or Artistic.
Where people get intimidated in starting their digital scrapbooking journey is they think there are rules which must be followed. There are no rules - there is only joy in creation.
If you want to find out more about Digital Scrapbooking, remember Google search is your friend and there is lots of good information to be found out there on the subject.’
Scrapbooks could include clippings from newspapers, favourite family recipes, photos, keepsakes from family celebrations etc.
In other words, things that had personal meaning and value to the family were collected in these scrapbooks.

Not all layouts however need elaborate journaling.
Sometimes a title does the job - as long as you remember to include the essentials of who/what/when/where.
In essence, you take the basics of that old-fashioned photo album and you add those things that were missing - names, dates, occasions.A layout can be a simple collage of photos with the needed data added or it can be very dressed up. Your approach is unimportant as long as it tells the story.

The Artistic Layout - Is not necessarily personal, although it can be.
It is created more for the beauty of the page itself and as a work of art quite unique to you. It allows for great scope using the various effects and techniques of the software.
Inspiration for creating such artistic works can be found in the digital scrapping kits themselves available from so many sources.
