I sometimes need to restart my machine and restarting can be such a dreaded hassle as I will have a ton of browser windows open and I will lose all but one window.
I use Chrome and Pale Moon.
Is there something I can do so that I can retain all of my open windows during a restart ?
I do know that when the power goes out and shuts down all our machines - an all too common occurrence in rural Kentucky - , when I fire them back up, there will be notices in both Chrome and Pale Moon asking if I want to restore all open windows and every last one of them will restore; so, I know it should be possible to retain them during a normal restart.
Although I have not yet tried it, the solution may be so simple as to not close them prior to the restart.
Thanks for reading.

Maybe you know this. IF (if) the open browser windows (pages) are usually the same ones then you can change your settings so that on startup those specific pages will open. If they are different from day-to-day then this won't help.

BuckSkin , I use Firefox (and occasionally, Chrome). Both have the option to open with previous tabs...In Settings:
Firefox: Chrome (Continue where you left off):
If these options aren't there, try updating your browser. My Chrome just updated and it seems to me it looks different now.
Good luck!

VickiDThanks for this. It seems Chrome has the same option as well. I did not know that.

Thanks, guys !
Armed with this new knowledge, I investigated the settings of both browsers and both were already set to retain my current windows and tabs (continue where I left off); however, for whatever reason, it only ever retains the last window closed prior to the restart.
Maybe that is where I am missing the boat; maybe I should leave all the windows open and restart.
How are you guys managing this ?

By any chance do you have both browsers set to clear your browsing history or your cache when you close them? Or are you browsing in Private or Incognito windows?

No to all of the above.
Here is how I have been doing things: Before a restart, I close all open programs, Explorer pages, Text Documents, and such.
I then close all of the browser windows one-by-one.
Then Restart.
If there is a means of closing all browser windows in a single maneuver, I have not been able to find it --- although it may be very obvious and looking right at me. EDIT: I right-clicked the TaskBar icon for Chrome and there it is "Close All Windows" I had looked for that many times before and for whatever reason it was not there.
I guess that is the missing link to my puzzle and I should be using that instead of closing them one-by-one.

I should be using that instead of closing them one-by-one. Just FYI, when I shut down at night, no matter what pages are open, I just hard close the browser. On start up, four pages automatically open: two weather pages, Gmail and a local "oldies" radio station.

I then close all of the browser windows one-by-one. If you are closing all the browser windows before you restart, that explains why they don't reopen after a restart. Don't close them - just close the browser as pontiac1940 says.

I agree with Andy and Clive...just shut the browser with the tabs open. If you get a message asking if you want to shut all tabs, say 'yes'. This should ensure your tabs will open after restarting.

This might not be salient ... there's a difference between a browser window and tab; at least in FireFox.
